What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is an FDA-approved medication for anesthesia and is on the list of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) essential medicines. Over the past few decades, research has shown its ability to rapidly and effectively treat depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and CRPS.
Spravato® (Esketamine) is a nasal spray that is chemically similar to ketamine which is administered in the office. It is FDA-approved and is covered by insurance.
Fast-Acting
Whereas most antidepressants require weeks or even months to have an effect, ketamine usually begins working within a matter of hours. Most patients experience significant relief after their first few treatments.
Effective
Ketamine can effectively treat a variety of mental health and chronic nerve pain disorders and has the scientific research to prove it. This is true even for those who have not responded to traditional treatments in the past.
Safe
Ketamine has an excellent safety profile when given by a trained medical professional. The dose given to treat mental health and chronic nerve pain conditions is significantly lower than that required during anesthesia.

Conditions we treat
Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD)
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), commonly referred to as depression, is a mental health condition characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness, and a loss of interest or pleasure in activities that were once enjoyable. It can interfere with your ability to function normally. It affects how you feel, think, and handle daily activities which can be extremely debilitating.
Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is a term used to describe depression that persists despite adequate trials of two or more antidepressant medications at an adequate dose and duration, as well as psychotherapy. It is estimated that around one-third of individuals with depression may experience treatment resistance at some point during their illness. Studies have shown that approximately 75% of people living with TRD respond to ketamine treatment.
Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental illnesses in the United States. Nearly 1 out of every 5 American adults suffer from some form of chronic anxiety. Anxiety disorders are a group of mental health conditions characterized by excessive and persistent feelings of fear, worry, or anxiety. These symptoms are difficult to control and significantly interfere with daily functioning.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop in people who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic or life-threatening event. There are no particular types of events that automatically cause PTSD. However, there are certain situations that are more likely to lead to PTSD due to their strong emotional component such as physical and sexual assault, motor vehicle accidents, war, and life threatening situations.
Recent studies have demonstrated that ketamine can effectively treat PTSD symptoms up to 70% of people. In addition, the results frequently begin to take effect within hours or days instead of weeks or months for the usual PTSD medications.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health disorder that is characterized by a pattern of unwanted thoughts, fears, urges (obsessions) that lead to repetitive behaviors (compulsions). People with OCD may experience persistent, intrusive thoughts and engage in ritualistic behaviors to manage the anxiety these thoughts produce.
OCD interfere with daily life by absorbing the patient’s time and keeping them from engaging in other activities that they truly enjoy doing. It can significantly impair someone’s ability to work, attend to their family, and keep meaningful relationships. Most people with OCD realize that these obsessions are irrational but they are unable to stop themselves from having it. Researchers have shown that approximately 50% of people suffering from near constant (more than 8 hours a day) OCD symptoms obtain significant relief with ketamine therapy.
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is an uncommon condition that causes pain, usually in your upper and lower extremities. CRPS typically develops after an injury, surgery, stroke or heart attack. The pain is out of proportion to the severity of the initial injury.
It is believed that CRPS occurs as a result of dysfunction in your central or peripheral nervous systems. Your central nervous system consists of your brain and spinal cord whereas your peripheral nervous system sends information from your brain and spinal cord to your arms, legs, fingers and toes. The abnormal functioning results in an overreaction to pain signals that your nervous system can’t shut off. Symptoms of CRPS include burning or throbbing pain, sensitivity to touch or cold, changes in skin color (from white and blotchy to red or blue. Ketamine can be considered when more traditional forms of treatment have been tried and failed to produce relief from symptoms.
